Late Life Crisis - November 2018

With Black Friday came a message from Glyndebourne offering 30% off. What a bargain I thought - 30% off tickets. On closer inspection it turned out that it was 30% off at the Glyndebourne shop. Sanity restored - surely we would not want all the riff-raff turning up in genteel Sussex....

Late Life Crisis - October 2018

Buying some items from Paperchase, I saw that their bag describes themselves as "Stationery Lovers Since 1968". In 1968 I was in Paris on a school trip, walking down the Boul' Mich' and pretending that I had been there earlier in the year during the student riots. I also fell in love with a Northern Irish girl from another school trip, but she never replied to my letters after we got home. I thought then that I was at the forefront of being cool, but today 1968 is a 50 year heritage point. Life moves on.

Late Life Crisis - September 2018

Right at the beginning of September, teenage kids eke out INSET days, hanging aroud street corners and clogging up daytime public transport, and the thought invariably crosses my mind: "When on earth are they going to go back to school?!"

Standing waiting for a bus, I examined the two-wheeler parked nearby. It would be termed a moped, but it is not like any moped I remember. Essentially it is a motorbike, with wheels maybe a tad smaller, and some casing for style effect.

Late Life Crisis - August 2018

I wrote this at the beginning of August:

"I awake to another hot and sunny day in London, and it makes me fed up.The weather sucks out one's energy, and pleasures such as a good long walk are valueless unless one moves into safari mode, heading out soon after 5am and returning by 10am. Everything is about craving the shade and minimising exertion.

Various folk have written that they will never complain again when the skies are leaden and rain is pouring. Personally I would not trust the British generally on that."

Antisemitism and Labour's Labours: Behind the Rhetoric

It is, of course, all about Israel.

The IHRA antisemitism definition

The International Holocaust Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism (2016) reads:

"Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred towards Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities."
